well, thats that...

This morning I overheard a Catholic individual (Robert) telling a group of his friends his admiration and confusion of Seventh Day Adventists. He said, "Why don't they eat pepper, I LOVE pepper...I put it on everything. If they were going to avoid something, why not salt, since they are SSOOO Health conscious." He then continued to express his sincere adoration at the way "all Seventh Day Adventist dress-up for church," and mentioned that "that is how it should be," and said he "wished Catholics would learn from that" because he is "appalled and absolutely discussed at what people wear...flip-flops, shorts, and the such..."

Now, I am a flip-flops guy, through and through, so I left before "cracking the whip"...but I do have some questions:
1. Doesn't God see us all the time, even nude in the shower or in our beat-up favorite pair of holey (not holy) underwear.
2. Who's to say what God's taste is? Maybe He despises our choice in garments...maybe our "Sunday Best" is hideous to Him?
3. After all, Jesus did not wear purple or religious robes, which would be equal to our nice suits...what did Jesus wear? SANDALS...
4. How does attire reflect our relationship to God?
5. And who, other than Jesus has any right to make any assumptions on that relationship, especially based on something so superficial?

This to me is morbidly funny, I grew up with this. I vividly remember the pastor our pastor teaching on this very subject, and I sunk low in my seat because I was wearing jeans. This is what we have been talking about in paradox. These are the types of people Jesus revealed his sarcasm to. This is a perfect example of the "Camel-needle" and the "Plank-speck." Imagine what could happen if people redirected all of their energy away from "mindless chatter" and "empty words" and focused on what was important...Advancing the Gospel, growing in the Lord, and bringing glory to Him in all we do...

thoughts?

in grace, tim
